At 06:31 this morning, North Shore Regional 911 dispatched Manchester Fire as part of a line-box response into Wenham for a reported trash truck fire on Route 128 South.
A few minutes later, responding police officers determined that the truck was located within Manchester. Wenham Fire continued its engine response to assist Manchester crews, and an Essex Fire tanker was added to the assignment due to the limited water supply available on the highway.
Manchester Ladder 1 and Engine 1 operated at the scene alongside crews from Wenham and Essex. Firefighters worked collaboratively to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, crews were able to extinguish the fire without having to empty the contents of the trash truck onto the highway, which would have resulted in a lengthy cleanup and significant disruption to this morning’s traffic.
Manchester Fire Group 4 was on duty, with Lieutenant Jonathan McDiarmid serving as the incident commander.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
