Fun Fact Friday – Community Heroes Edition!

Manchester Fire is a better department because of the incredible community we serve. The recent blizzard didn’t just bring heavy snow and strong winds — it brought out the very best in humanity right here in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

Today, we were proud to recognize Trevor, the winner of our Hydrant Heroes Contest. Trevor cleared 8 buried hydrants across town, directly impacting public safety. For his outstanding community spirit, he received a gift certificate to Bravo Pizza, generously donated by Crocker’s Boat Yard, as well as a Dunkin’ gift certificate from the Fire Chief.

Also recognized today — though camera-shy — was Cecily Mehlman, who generously provided food that helped feed Manchester Fire, Police, and DPW crews during the storm. Captain Cavender even spotted Cecily out in a reflective vest shoveling hydrants herself. For her generosity and hands-on support, she was awarded a gift certificate donated by Crosby’s Market.

Last but certainly not least, next week, William and Alex will receive Dunkin’ gift certificates from Chief McNeilly for being the youngest Hydrant Heroes entered into our contest.

Serving this community is always rewarding, but the pride is even greater when we are working hand in hand with the people we protect. Manchester, you truly make us better every single day.

We would like to thank Crocker’s Boat Yard and Crosby’s Market for assisting us in recognizing these heroes.
