As we celebrate 250 years of America, it’s incredible to look back at how much the American fire service has evolved.
The earliest fire departments had one primary mission: put out fires and protect their communities from devastating loss. Today, the modern fire service has grown into a true all-hazards emergency response system, prepared to respond whenever and wherever people need help.
Manchester Fire is proud to have evolved along with the fire service since our inception in 1828. Today, our members train and respond across a wide range of emergencies, including structural and wildland firefighting, advanced life support and paramedic care, vehicle extrication, technical rescue, water and marine rescue, rope and confined-space rescue, hazardous materials incidents, severe weather events, and mutual aid emergencies throughout the region.
This evolution would not be possible without the continued support of our community and the dedication of the members of our Department. Our community provides us with the resources, equipment, and support necessary to meet an ever-changing mission, while our firefighters dedicate countless hours to training, education, and preparation to ensure they are ready when called upon.
While our equipment, training, technology, and responsibilities have changed dramatically over the past years, one thing has remained constant: the fire service exists to protect its community and help people on their worst days.
We are proud of the history and traditions of the American fire service, grateful for the support of our community, and proud of the members of Manchester Fire who work every day to carry that legacy forward.
