Over the past two weeks, the Manchester Fire Department has experienced a truly historic period of growth, advancement, and progress.
We are proud to announce the promotion of Captain Robert Cavender to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. In this new role, Chief Cavender will help bring continued operational consistency, leadership, and strategic direction to the department.
Additionally, Firefighter/Paramedic Jonathan McDiarmid has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and will serve as the Group 2 Shift Commander. Lieutenant McDiarmid has been a dedicated and valued member of the department, and we are confident he will excel in this leadership role.
Pictured here are the four firefighters hired through the SAFER Grant, a critical investment in the safety and resilience of our community:
- Firefighter/Paramedic Quincy Carvino joins us from the Gloucester Fire Department.
- Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Sanfilippo comes from private EMS and will be attending an upcoming fire academy.
- Firefighter/EMT Timothy Lamusta joins the department and also serves as a call firefighter with the Lynnfield Fire Department.
- Firefighter/EMT Caleb Leonard joins us while continuing to serve as a call firefighter with the Hamilton Fire Department.
Firefighters Lamusta and Leonard will both be attending paramedic school beginning this May, further strengthening our department’s advanced life support capabilities.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the citizens of Manchester, as well as the Town, Select Board, and Finance Committee, for their continued support. These advancements ensure operational continuity at the administrative level while also allowing us to maintain a minimum staffing level of four firefighters on duty per shift.
Each group will be staffed with a company officer and four firefighters, strengthening our ability to respond effectively and safely to the needs of our community now and in the future.
