It’s Friday; This week is a Not so Fun Fact!

January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month. Due to the nature of their work and the substances they are exposed to, firefighters are at a higher risk of being diagnosed with certain types of cancer compared to the general public. They also tend to develop cancer earlier in life and are more likely to detect it at later stages. The Manchester Fire Department encourages our staff to take proactive steps regarding their health and undergo regular screenings.

We are pleased that the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and the Department of Fire Services continue to provide a variety of cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection tools for firefighters across the Commonwealth. These programs are critically important for our firefighters and their families.
