It’s Time for Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that the Manchester Fire Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety of children riding in vehicles? We inspect and install a wide range of car seats, from infant seats to booster seats. Currently, three firefighters on our team are Certified Car Seat Technicians, with two more set to begin their training soon.

The Manchester Fire Department offers free car seat inspections to everyone, and you do not need to be a resident to take advantage of this service. Our assistance extends beyond just inspecting seats; we also help caregivers with:

  • Properly sizing a harness for a child’s size
  • Operating a child seat or carrier
  • Inspecting for correct installation
  • Determining the appropriate type of seat for a child (rear-facing or forward-facing)

With the vast array of car seats and vehicles being produced, it can sometimes be challenging for caregivers to install a car seat safely in their specific vehicle. Our department inspects a large volume of car seats, providing us with valuable insights into the differences between vehicles and seats. This experience has equipped us with numerous tips and tricks to ensure the proper and safe installation of your child’s car seats.

All of our members are certified under the National Child Passenger Safety Certification. Call the fire station or visit our website: www.mbtsfire.com and look for the Car Seat tab under ‘Resources’
