Did you know that emergency preparedness goes far beyond responding when the alarm sounds?
This past week, in addition to our regularly assigned training, emergency responses, and daily apparatus and equipment readiness checks, Manchester Fire crews spent time focused on the work that helps ensure we are ready before an emergency happens.
Our crews practiced ladder placement scenarios using Ladder 1’s remote-control capabilities, allowing members to sharpen their proficiency with specialized equipment and improve operational efficiency on the fireground.
Crews also spent time navigating local fire roads to confirm access points remain passable for emergency vehicles. Along the way, members identified and removed several downed trees and other obstructions that could have delayed emergency access for first responders.
While emergency response is what most people see, a major part of what we do happens behind the scenes. Pre-planning, prevention, training, and access verification are all critical parts of our mission and play a direct role in ensuring a safe, efficient, and seamless response when our community calls for help.
Preparedness doesn’t begin when the tones drop — it starts long before the emergency.
