It’s Time for Fun Fact Friday – Jaws of Life Edition!

This past week, all Manchester Fire Department working groups and call firefighters participated in hands-on vehicle extrication training. The training evolutions were run by our Training Coordinator, Firefighter Erik Juncker.

Motor vehicle crashes are among the emergencies our firefighters respond to on a regular basis. To ensure we are prepared when seconds count, our members regularly train with specialized rescue equipment, including:

  • Hydraulic rescue tools: spreaders, cutters and ram (“Jaws of Life”)
  • Vehicle stabilization systems
  • Airbags and lifting equipment
  • Rescue struts and cribbing techniques

Training like this allows our firefighters to continually refine and improve their skills so they can safely and efficiently rescue trapped occupants during real-world emergencies.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Manchester Department of Public Works for allowing us to utilize their back lot for this training. We would also like to thank Todisco Towing for generously donating four vehicles and providing delivery and pickup services to support this important training opportunity.

At Manchester Fire, we are committed to continuous training and professional development so we can provide the highest level of service to our community when it matters most.
