Manchester β Chief James McNeilly has lifted the ban on all outdoor fires implemented earlier this month due to extreme fire conditions, effective immediately.
Recent cooler temperatures, higher humidity levels, and precipitation have reduced the fire danger that prompted the National Weather Service to issue Red Flag fire danger warnings for Massachusetts over the past few weeks.
βThe extreme risk of outdoor fires spreading and growing quickly has declined significantly,β stated State Fire Marshal Jon Davine in an email to fire chiefs across the state on Monday.
While the outdoor fire ban has been lifted in Manchester, open burning remains illegal outside the designated open burning season. The previous ban included all outdoor burning not covered by the open burning statute, such as fires in fire pits, chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, and cooking or heating equipment.
Please exercise caution and common sense with any fire. As a reminder, the open burning season runs from January 15 to May 1, and a permit is always required in advance. Residents can learn more about Open Burning Safety at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/open-burning-safety.
As we move forward from an unprecedented fall fire season, we appreciate your ongoing support in our efforts to keep Manchester safe. Thank you!
