MANCHESTER — Chief James McNeilly reports that the Manchester Fire Department responded to a gas leak incident on Wednesday morning.
At 7:45 AM, North Shore Regional 911 transmitted an ‘All-Tone’ for a gas leak on Beaver Dam Rd., following a 911 call indicating that a contractor had inadvertently dug up an underground gas line.
Upon arrival, units discovered a ruptured 2-inch gas main. National Grid was promptly notified. Fire crews deployed hose lines and secured the area, which is identified as a hydrant-limited zone, necessitating a larger-than-usual response. The Manchester Fire Department’s response included Ladder 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Ambulance 1, and C1. Beverly Engine 3 provided station coverage during this incident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there was no damage to nearby structures. Nearby structures were metered to deem them safe. Firefighters cleared the scene by 9:31 AM, with National Grid remaining on site to carry out repairs.
Beaver Dam Rd was closed during the active response but has since reopened.
